Logging town, Located in both Linn
and Marion counties. At one
time the rail tracks stretched to Idanha but were removed after water of Detroit
Dam blocked the canyon. From Oregon Geographic Names: "Idanha is a place on North Santiam River about four miles upstream from Detroit. John Minto in OHQ, v. 4, p. 248, says the original name was Muskrat Camp but that it was renamed by the proprietor of the resort hotel. T. Egenton Hogg's Oregon Pacifc Railroad Company built east up the North Santiam River and reached the vicinity of Idanha in 1889. All construction ceased at the end of that yaer and there was little activity in the area unitl 1895, when, amid a rash of land entries, Idanha post office was established with Alma Kriesel psotmaster. The origin of the name is apparent but the reason baffling. In 1887 Fred J. Kiesel of Ogde, Utah, was the principal incorporator of The Natural Mineral Water Company which bottled Idan-Ha water from the Ninety Percent Spring in Soda Springs, Idaho. The company went on to build the Idanha Hotel in Soda Springs and both the water and the hostelry became known throughout the northwest. Alma Kriesel had two brothers who were active in Idanha, Oregon, possibly in the resort hotel, and the compiler is certain that some member of the family was familiar with the Soda Springs operation. Extensive research has shown that both the Kiesel and Kriesel families came originally from Germany but no connection can be established. There is an Idaho legend to the effect that Idan-Ha, as the name was used on the bottle labels, was the Indian name for the legend or spot of the Spirit of the Healing Waters. More than this the reader must find or deduce for himself." Location:

Turnridge, a pioneer settler in this community, liked the name Tacoma and tried to have postal authorities adopt it, but they did not do so on account of duplication. W. J. 12 Aug 1903 Small village, three miles north
of Lacomb. From Land of Linn:
"The little village of Larwood is practically forgotten, except by a
few old-timers, but its location and distinctive landmark will be preserved for
future generations. Today a
picturesque covered bridge, a farm site, a county park, a fishing and swimming
hole, and an abundance of history, add to the attraction of this eastern Linn
County landmark. In 1888 William Larwood settled on the banks of Crabtree and Roaring River, three miles north of Lacomb. There he platted a town, operated a post office from 1893 to 1903, and built a store and blacksmith shop. A sawmill and a grain chopping mill powered by a water wheel was operated nearby by John Cyrus. Not enough people lived in the area and the town ceased to exist. Possibly the spot would be
forgotten if it had not been for Robert Ripley in writing his nationally
syndicated newspaper column and his nationally broadcasted radio programs in the
1950's--"Believe It Or Not"--when he revealed the fact that
"Strange as it may seem, there is only one place in the world where a river
empties into a creek--Roaring River emptying into Crabtree Creek in Linn County,
Oregon." This recognition kept a spark of interest alive for some future development along the two trout-laden mountain streams. Through the generosity of two public-spirited land owners, Mrs. Nettie Bartu and Mr. and Mrs. D. C. McLean, parcels of their property were donated in 1965 to Linn County for recreational purposes at the point where Roaring River runs into Crabtree Creek. A county-owned park has been developed. The town of Larwood may not be revived but a beautiful recreational spot near the old town site has been dedicated to public use forever." Location:
