24 April 1894 Short-lived post office, located
between Lebanon and Lacomb. From Oregon Geographic Names:
"Efforts to learn the reason for this odd name for a Linn County post
office have not been fruitful. No
real Aberdonian would waste the extra letter in the spelling, and the style must
have been selected by someone other than a Scot....About 1890 one John Flaugher
started a store at this home about eight miles east of Lebanon and applied for a
post office which was supposed to have been named in compliment to a former
home, Aberdeen, Michigan. The
compliler has been unable to find a place called Aberdeen, Michigan, in
available records, but there may have been one about 1890." Original post office application was submitted with name of "Salt Lake City" but name was rejected. Salt Lake School No. 96 was located at Twp 11S, Range 1W, Section 27. Abberdeen was probably located nearby. Location:

16 Jun 1902 Near the mining community of
Quartzville. From Oregon Geographic Names: "Anidem is one of those names which was formed by spelling another word backward. Oregon has had a number of post offices with this type of name but most of them have faded from the picture. Anidem was established... with William B. Lawler first postmaster when mining activity was resumed near the old location of Quartzville. Lawler was apparently the principal in Lawler's Gold Mines, Ltd., the company which undertook the revival. Albert Burch was the manager and he gives further details in OHQ, V. 43, p. 109.... Lawler had previously lived at a community or locality called Medina, possibly in Colorado. Why he chose to burden his mining development with such an odd name as Anidem is a mystery to the compiler. In 1906 there were approximately a dozen post offices in the United States with the name Medina but none in Colorado. However, there may have been a Medina mine in Colorado. These post offices were probably all named for Medina in Arabia, although it is of course possible that in some cases the name Medina was of Spanish origin. The compiler does not know why the name Medina turned out to be so popular in the United States." Location:

30 Sept 1937 A community near Hamilton Creek, about seven miles southeast of Lebanon. See Town Histories. From Oregon Geographic Names: "Early in Oct. 1944, residents of Berlin were astonished to learn that arrangements had been made to change the name of their community to Distomo for the place in Greece so horribly treated by the Germans. This change in name, to be accompanied by a blast of nationwide radio and other publicity, was said to be in the interest of democracy, but the promoters of the plan were not sufficiently interested in practical democracy to ask the local residents for their views about the business. These local citizens organized a democratic revolt and the scheme was abandoned. A project to change all the names in this country so as to eliminate those commemorating places and people of nations with which the United States had at one time or another been at war would have surprising results." Located near the mining community
of Quartzville. From Land of Linn: "Bryant City can hardly be called a town, although perhaps more activity took place in this area than in most towns of the county in the late 1890's. Bryant City grew because of Quartzville. It was the night life district of the gold country, located on Canal Creek approximately four miles down the gulch from Quartzville on the old wagon road leading in from Gates. The owners of Quartzville mines did not permit gambling or the sale of liquor on their lands, and as a result, Bryant City was developed, mainly as a place of entertainment for the gold diggers. As miners congregated on weekends from neighboring gulches around Quartzville there was nothing in hell quite equal to Bryant City." Location:

Community near Lebanon.
From Oregon Geographic Names: "Crowfoot is a crossroads community on the South Santiam Highway about two miles south of Lebanon. It has not had a separate post office but has been served through Lebanon. All the available evidence says that the locality got the name Crowfoot because the roads intersecting there came together in a pattern that suggested the track left by a crow's foot. This is shown clearly by the USGS map of the Lebanon quadrangle. Katherine Harris, in a column headed "Off the Record," in the Lebanon Express for Jan. 23, 1947, gives a good deal of history about the place called Crowfoot. It was named many years ago, apparently by Hester Sturdevant, an early resident of the locality. The Grange Hall, then one of the important buildings at Crowfoot, was formerly the old college hall at Sodaville. When the college was abandoned, the building was moved to Crowfoot."
